A ham radio operator (or radio amateur) is a licensed enthusiast who uses two-way radio communication for non-commercial purposes, including public service, emergency communication, education, and technical experimentation. There are over 3 million active operators worldwide who communicate across town, around the world, or into space without using the internet or cell phones.
