The Intelligence and Investigations (I/I) function in the Incident Command System (ICS) is a specialized, optional, and scalable component activated on a case-by-case basis to handle incidents involving potential criminal, terrorist, or specific non-law enforcement (e.g., epidemiological) activities. It ensures that intelligence-gathering, analysis, and sharing are properly coordinated to support life safety, incident management, and, if necessary, the apprehension of perpetrators.
